Morning mist over vegetation in rain forest, Gemena, Zaire (Congo)Morning Mist

At 3:30 we finally headed out of town and took the route going south. It was a nice ride through some dense vegetation, and of course passing many villages with lots of people waving and kids screaming with excitement. The light was really just right, and we drove by some more great potential pix. During the wood stop I did get a couple of shots of vegetation. We made camp in  a little clearing between 2 villages south of Gemena.

A.B. Is delirious and has been ranting and raving. We think it might be malaria, but we don’t know what to do. It is a very helpless feeling. We’re waiting for dinner now, followed by a group meeting. Forgot to mention that quite a few people are ill with flu or maybe malaria. On our truck, Aids, Dan, and Nick are recovering, and Pete and Sam are in bad shape.

After a visit to the clinic this morning, all of the above-named were diagnosed as having malaria, with Dan having pneumonia as well. Audrey is now on the sick list too.

A rough ride this morning--very bouncy. Still beautiful scenery. Smells of woods and grass...
