Quite a day today, and a long one at that.

My alarm woke me at 6:40. As I was scurrying about the room, my eye caught the Matterhorn. It was lit with a golden light and backed by a deep blue sky. I had to get a few pix from my window…

We cheated, and took the ride up to the Kleine Matterhorn (12,740’). We walked part way out onto the windy glacier, and then put on crampons and roped up…

We climbed the glacier--it looked steep from a distance, but wasn’t that bad--in about 1-1/2 hours to the summit of Breithorn (13,520’). What an incredible view! Mont Blanc, way into Italy, Zermatt, and snow-peaked mountains for 360º. Also, a different view of the Matterhorn. We had a picture taking and eating session just below the summit and out of the wind. (It was surprisingly calm up there considering the rest of the climb.)
