Aerial view of sand dunes in desert. Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia.Desert Dunes I had been trying for a few days to hire a plane for some photography over the desert of the Namib Naukluft National Park. The weather wasn’t cooperating, so I kept rescheduling. Finally, after returning from a visit to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, conditions looked almost right (just slightly hazy). I called the charter airline, ComAv, and they had a plane available.

Aerial view of desert sand dunes meeting Atlantic Ocean, Sandwich Harbour. Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia.Sand and Surf The door of the plane was off so that Anderson and I could shoot out our side. We shared the flight with a father and son, but it was our flight to direct. We flew out over the desert, mile after mile of sand dunes. Next was out over Sandwich Bay, looking down over large flocks of flamingos flying, an unusual perspective for viewing flying birds. We flew down the coastline, enjoying watching and photographing the patterns of waves as they broke along the beach with the desert in the background. It was a very enjoyable flight--I really do love small planes!
