Teenage boy poling dugout fishing boat, Nungwi. Zanzibar, Tanzania. Boy in Boat

After breakfast, we were picked up before 9 for the 1-hour ride to Nungwi, on the northern tip of Zanzibar. I tried to go for a dip after we checked in to our beachfront bungalow, but at low tide, there were too many sea urchins around. I’ll wait--we’ve got 4 days here.

The rest of the day was spent reading and relaxing, with bouts of doing nothing, punctuated by lunch, coffee, and dinner. After over a month on the road, this was well-deserved. Of course, my eyes are always scanning the surroundings, and when this boat worked its way in front of me, I had to grab a few shots.
