Metropol Parasol B&WMetropol Parasol B&WSeville, Spain. Thanks to my niece, Kate Wessman, for playing tour guide and turning me on to this one. This controversial building/structure/modern art piece is situated in an traditional old neighborhood of Seville. It doesn’t fit here, but it is just so cool! It’s official name is the Metropol Parasol, but it’s nickname is Las Setas, or The Mushrooms. There is a restaurant inside and walkways on the top which give a great view of the city in all directions.

I took a lot of photos, and this was one of my favorites. I did some HDR, or high dynamic range, photography. I took several frames at different exposures and combined them in post production, allowing me to capture the entire range of brightness in the scene. (Our eyes can see it, but the camera sensor can’t capture the full range in 1 frame.) I bumped up the structure and saturation a bit. I was very happy with the color version, but thought I would try it in black and white. I can’t make up my mind which I like best, so I include both in my book.
