Devil's Golf CourseDevil's Golf CourseSalt crystals and snowy mountains, Devil's Golf Course. Death Valley National Park, California. I had always heard about Death Valley being the hottest place in the US, so I was hoping to find some warmth here as I attempted to escape the cold of  a New York winter.

Well, I guess February was not the time to experience heat here. (Take a look at the snow-capped mountains in the background.) It might have hit 50℉ during the day, but it was closer to freezing at night at the lower elevation of the campground.

Nevertheless it was a fascinating place to visit. I did a lot of hiking, and remember one hike exploring up a narrow canyon, encountering new vistas with each turn.
