BambooBambooBamboo trees, Penang Botanic Garden. George Town, Penang, Malaysia. I took the funicular to the top of Penang Hill--a very steep ride. I discovered that it was very hazy and the view from the top was not good...

I explored around a bit on top, then started my descent via the 5.5K jeep road to the Penang Botanic Gardens. It was about 2,000 feet of downhill. I tried to give my knees a break by “running” on the steep sections, by my quads and shins took it hard. I’m sure I will be feeling it tomorrow.

It took about an hour to reach the gardens, and I enjoyed an iced tea when I got there. It was hot, and I sat on a bench in the shade of this small bamboo tree. I had plenty of time to contemplate the leaves and markings on the bark as I rested. When I got some energy back, I had to photograph the tree.

In post production, I played around with saturation and detail to make it look more painterly.
