Zabriskie PointZabriskie PointEroded hills and gullies, Zabriskie Point. Death Valley National Park, California. I had always heard about Death Valley being the hottest place in the US, so I was hoping to find some warmth here as I attempted to escape the cold of  a New York winter.

Well, I learned February was not the time to experience heat here. It might have hit 50℉ during the day, but it was closer to freezing at night at the lower elevation of the campground.

Nevertheless it was a fascinating place to visit. I did a lot of hiking, and remember one hike exploring up a narrow canyon, encountering new vistas with each turn.

This photo of Zabriskie Point was taken fairly early in the morning so as to take advantage of the shadows to emphasize the ridges and the texture of this unique landscape.
