Giraffe DuoGiraffe DuoTwo giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) face each other, white rhinocerous in background. Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. Up at 4 am, and at park gate by 4:30, which is when the guard had told us we could get out. No go. We got stuck waiting until the gate officially opened at 5. What a waste. I was so tired. I was more or less up since 2—couldn’t sleep.

Made it to Memorial Gate, the northern entry to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve by 5:30. Lots of game immediately. Saw rhinos, zebras, southern ground hornbill around first water hole. During the day saw lots of rhino dung and white rhinos, impala, nyala, wildebeest, warthogs, elephant, and giraffe. The light was good early on.

About 8:00 I noticed the left front tire, which has had a slow leak all along, had gone flat. We changed it, but just had a mini spare, os have to take it easy.
