Quebec City SunsetQuebec City SunsetSilhouette of Chateau Frontenac and Quebec City skyline at dusk, from Lewis. Quebec, Canada. On this solo road trip I was visiting our neighbors to the north. Although I liked Montreal, I felt there was something very special about Quebec City. It is so different from other cities in North America. It felt like I was in Europe—the language, architecture, and food all contributed to that.

I wanted to capture the iconic Chateau Frontenac hotel. I scouted out where my best angle to get a silhouette at sunset would be. I got myself situated early, set up the camera and waited. I was bracketing my exposures to make sure I got the perfect color in the sky. The camera was on a tripod, and this was probably an 8- or 15-second exposure.
