Mosque Below MountainsMosque Below MountainsGreen minarets of mosque, Koh Panyi fishing village. Phang Nga Bay, Thailand. I disembarked from the boat at Koh Panyi, the Muslim fishing/tourist village. It was hot as I was lead to my “hotel” room. I am the only one who is doing the overnight tour.

I took a break for a bit, then walked around in the heat looking for pix in the late afternoon light. I didn’t get much as everything is quite confined. All of the homes are built on stilts on basically 1 large dock which is connected at one end to an island consisting of an imposing vertical karst formation, with no flat land for homes or fields.

I sat on the pier for an hour, just observing life around me, and keeping an eye on sunset conditions. People seem to have plenty of time to sit around and talk. It’s a totally different lifestyle. There are probably only a couple hundred families here, all within the equivalent of two football fields. Everybody knows everybody, and I already recognize certain individuals.
