Guarding the HarborGuarding the HarborCastillo de San Pedro de la Roca del Morro. Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Luisito, my casa host, surprised me when he showed up with breakfast at 7:30 instead of 8-ish. It was already hot on the terrace even then.

We left in his car around 8:30 and headed for Castillo San Pedro de la Roca. It is a fort with a strong defensive position and awesome views at the narrow entrance to the Bahia Santiago. I shot some pix, and quickly got hot in the sun. There were some shady spots with great breezes coming through, and I enjoyed those.

He drove along the bay, and we stopped briefly across from Cayó Granma. We continued on to San Juan Hill, where there is only 1 brief mention of T.R. The Cubans are quick to point out that their army provided great assistance to the American forces to win this battle against Spain. (Only to become a colony of the US instead of Spain.) Right next to the monument is an amusement park. I am very glad that I did not attempt to walk here, because it is about 1.5 miles from my casa and very hot.
