From the Journals… Sagaing, Myanmar (Burma). January 23, 2019Many ChoicesU Min Thonze Caves, Sagaing, Myanmar (Burma). Myo had arranged for a tuk tuk to take us to Saigang. It was a bit a chilly ride in the open air, especially for May May. We first went to Kaunghmudaw Paya, which was having its coat of gold paint ordered by Than Shwe removed and changed back to the original white. I took some pix of the men working on the stupa. Myo bumped in to a high school Classmate from Bago. She and her family were visiting from Seattle, where they have been living for ten years.
Our next stop was Soon U Pon Nya Shin Paya. It had some beautiful views of the surrounding temples on hills and there was Buddhist chanting drifting up fro one of them. The Ayerwaddy River was in the background. It was very peaceful and would have been good to photograph in early morning light. Now the light was too harsh and there was a lot of haze or pollution. We couldn’t even see Mandalay, which was only a half hour away across the river.
We then went to U Min Thonze Caves, which had interesting entrance that needed to be photographed.
