Again I drove through Pujung, for the third time now. It was obvious upon arrival that this was a big event, as a lot of people were all dressed up with matching sarongs and headpieces.

There was much activity, involving all ages, probably 2 or 3 thousand people--quite a spectacle. I shot 6 rolls during the day, from portraits, group shots, temple close-ups, and of course, documenting the main activity.

There was a large gamelan orchestra, kids dressed in their finest, and made up, too. There would be long waits, then bursts of activity. It was hot, and I tried to spend as much of the down-time as possible in the shade. I found the whole thing fascinating, very colorful, and quite good subject matter. There were lots of Western travelers present, yet I never got the feeling that we were intruding.

After much fuss, they finally set him aflame, and after people saw him get toasted, they made their way back into the center of the village, and we miraculously found our waiting bemo (minivan).
