Winter is a great time to see bird life in this wildlife refuge. The morning was really cold, and I did get some nice photos of birds at that time. I took a break in the middle of the day, and went back in late afternoon. I did see some birds, but none were in my immediate vicinity when the light got really exciting and the clouds started glowing.

 I used what I had available as my subject, namely my car’s side-view mirror. It worked. This image was used as a book cover for Air Burial by Jean Shields.
