I was very happy to return to one of my favorite parts of the country, the White Mountains, during fall foliage season. It has been many years since my last trip here for foliage. Although I have hiked up here many times, today I had my wife and mother-in-law in tow, so we took the Auto Road. Because of the wind, snow and slippery conditions, we were only permitted to go halfway up.

 This was taken at the base of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the northeast US. Conditions on top can be extreme, as they were today. It was Fall at the base, and Winter on the summit! Yes, this was enhanced in post-production to make it look more painterly.
