I was exploring around this fascinating part of our country for a couple of weeks, poking my camera into all kinds of interesting places. I saw Shiprock in the evening, but the light wasn’t great. I calculated where the sun would rise in the morning, then looked for an interesting angle to determine where I needed to be.

I camped nearby, then got myself up very early and drove to that spot. All it required from that point was some waiting and some luck. Mother Nature did her thing and provided me with nice light and nice clouds.
