From the Journals...Hoi An, Vietnam. January 30, 1999
Walked around to the Japanese Bridge, and then hit a few art galleries selling watercolor paintings on rice paper. I bought 2 that I couldn’t resist. We were told it was a special night in Hoi An, but I thought we were just being handed a line. However, when we walked out of the gallery, most of the street lights were out, and there were tons of Chinese and Japanese lanterns glowing. It was enchanting. At the Chinese temple there were 2 sets of old men in colorful, traditional costumes playing a checkers-like game illuminated by a single candle. Too bad I left my tripod in the hotel. Kerosene lamps and music on the boats. Comments
