From the Journals...Giza, Egypt. March 15, 1989
It felt really great to be back in the desert again--and it is desert even this close to the Nile--I was surprised. The great open feeling, the breezes over the sands, and the silence (once we got away from the other people) really got me thinking about my last trip through the Sahara. I can’t seem to get it out of my mind.
We couldn’t enter Cheop’s Pyramid, but we went into those of Chephren and Mycerinus. They weren’t very exciting--just empty. We walked around the pyramids, and then further out over the dunes, talking to some of the camel drivers along the way. The pyramids are pretty much as I expected, but the Sphinx was disappointingly small…
When the light was looking right, we went back towards the pyramids in search of a camel to take us around… We walked a bit more and I took 1/2 a roll of Mycerinus’ Pyramid with clouds and corpuscular rays behind it.
